As a sportscaster constantly in the spotlight, Erin Andrews is no stranger to long hours and high-pressure environments. But behind the scenes, the American TV personality has been quietly managing a condition that affects millions: dry eye syndrome (DES).
Now, Andrews is teaming up with Miebo from Bausch + Lomb to not only find relief for herself but also to raise awareness about this often-overlooked issue that affects a staggering number of people—especially women.
Dry eye syndrome, also known as chronic dry eye, is more common than many realize, affecting over 16 million Americans, with women being twice as likely than men to suffer from it due to hormonal changes, age and lifestyle factors.
For Andrews, whose life involves long hours in front of screens, constant travel, and changing environments, the toll on her eyes became impossible to ignore.
“I look at a ton of screens,” Andrews tells Flow Space. “I’m on my phone, reading articles, researching football games and watching television. Plus, I’m constantly traveling—planes, hotel rooms, different cities every week. All of that was really taking a toll on my eyes, making them feel gritty and scratchy.”
At first, Andrews chalked it up to fatigue from her demanding schedule.
“I would try to blink a lot and rub my eyes, which really ticked off my makeup artist because I’d get mascara everywhere. I thought it was just being tired or the elements, but I was wrong,” she admits.
After a visit to her eye doctor, Andrews received a diagnosis of dry eye syndrome and was prescribed Miebo, the first and only prescription eye drop that directly targets too much tear evaporation, the number one cause of DES.
The results were almost immediate.
“Honestly, instantly when I took it, I felt such a difference,” Andrews says. “It was really nice to not have to worry about squinting, rubbing my eyes or wondering if something was wrong.”
With dry eye syndrome often going undiagnosed or untreated, Andrews is using her platform to encourage others to take action. Studies show that many women suffer in silence, assuming their symptoms—like itchy, tired or dry eyes—are simply a result of busy schedules or aging. But there are solutions.
Now, as a partner with Bausch + Lomb’s Miebo, Andrews is on a mission to spread awareness about dry eye syndrome and to empower people to seek help. With awareness and proper care, millions of women like Andrews can find relief and improve their quality of life.
“I would suggest going to your eye doctor and asking questions. Talk about your symptoms and see what’s best for you. It’s important to listen to them,” she advises.
